Stress & Anxiety
Turn stress into success
In today's busy world, full of pressures and responsibilities, there are a vast
number of reasons to feel stressed and anxious.
Most professionals thrive on a certain amount of stress and pressure, which can sharpen your senses and make you more successful in important situations. But continuous periods of stress or anxiety can disrupt your career, your relationships and your health. Recognising the difference between these two situations is your first step to making progress.
Feeling stressed or anxious makes your heart beat faster, your breathing faster and your muscles tense. This is known as the 'stress response' or the 'fight or flight' response, which you might have heard of.
The stress response is a natural, instinctual, survival response to something that could be a 'danger' to you. Its aim is to give you the physical energy you would need to either fight or take flight.
If your feelings of stress or anxiety go on for too long, the repeated physical changes slowly wear down your immune system and leave you feeling exhausted.
My treatment involves exploring the triggers for your stress or anxiety, and giving you some simple ways to cope with these triggers and replace the stress response with the 'relaxation response'.
The relaxation response involves deep breathing, relaxing your muscles and focusing on positive thoughts. By doing these simple things, you can neutralise feelings of stress or anxiety, and even prepare yourself in advance of a stressful situation, so that you can be at your best when it really matters.
